Introducing Marty

Marty brings a wealth of cycling experience and passion to Hendry’s, shaped by years of racing, team support, and a passion for two wheels. In 2020, Marty and his family made the sea change from Wangaratta to Geelong, swapping vines for the coast. With a strong background in the wine industry, Marty’s other passion - cycling - remained a constant thread. While working at a winery, he had the unique opportunity to organise and run a major bike race through the vineyard, blending both worlds.

Marty's journey with Trek began long before joining the brand - his first performance bike was a USPS team issue Trek 5500. He raced competitively in the Netherlands and Belgium in 2003 and proudly represented Australia at the Oceania Championships in New Zealand in 2005.

After stepping back from racing, Marty stayed immersed in the sport, working as a mechanic with several UCI teams including Trek-Segafredo, Lidl-Trek, Uno-X, Coop Repsol, and the ARA Australian National Team. He also played a pivotal role in managing a leading Women’s National Road Series team, helping launch the careers of riders such as Grace Brown, Brodie Chapman, Sarah Gigante, Shannon Malseed, and Catalina Soto.

We welcome Marty to the Hendry’s Team in his role as Sales and Service Specialist.

How did you get into cycling?
My family moved to Rutherglen when I was 13. I joined the local bunch ride one Saturday morning and was hooked from the start.

Favourite bike?
My Trek Checkpoint - it’s my go-anywhere bike. From daily commutes to gravel adventures and even the You Yangs, it does it all.

Riding type?
I’ve primarily ridden road and track, but these days I’m really enjoying gravel riding and local adventures.

Favourite ride?
The Strade Nero circuit in the King Valley. It’s a 120km loop used in the Tour of the King Valley NRS race. It features everything - flat sections, five gravel sectors including a 5km climb dubbed the “Strade Nero,” with rolling vineyards, and, depending on the season, views of snow-capped mountains.

Favourite coffee?
Magic.
