With over 15 years of experience as a Sports Scientist and Exercise Physiologist, Charles has worked with leading organisations including the Geelong Football Club, the Australian Institute of Sport, the Australian Rowing Team, the Melbourne Football Club, and served as an advisor to the AFL.
In 2017, he launched CATACOMB - a cycling apparel brand born from his roots in skateboarding culture, blending performance driven design with bold, artistic expression. It remains a passion project he continues to manage in his spare time.
Originally from Portarlington, Charles and his wife returned to Geelong in 2020 to raise their young family. Joining Hendry’s has been the ideal combination of bikes, community, and spending more time with his two boys.
How did you get into cycling?
I grew up skateboarding and playing footy. After injury forced me out of footy, I took up running, and when that ended, I found cycling at age 21 – and haven’t looked back since.
Favourite bike:
My Pinarello Dogma 2, purchased in Italy in 2012, was truly a dream bike. For a while, I hesitated to ride it - too nervous I might scratch it!
Riding style:
Whatever fits around nap time and bedtime! Usually a mix of road and gravel.
Favourite ride:
A 207km loop around Lago Maggiore in northern Italy, crossing the border into Switzerland. It’s the biggest and probably the most memorable ride I’ll ever do.
Coffee of choice:
Instant Blend 43, microwaved.
